The right Fairfield County town for you depends on five things: your commute tolerance, your school priorities, your budget, the type of community you want, and how much land you need. I've done 400+ deals across every town in this county over 18 years, and I host the Discover CT show where I've spent years filming these communities up close. What follows isn't a marketing brochure — it's what I'd actually tell someone who asked me directly.

How Do School Districts Affect Your Town Choice?
School quality is one of the top three decision drivers in this market, and the differences are baked into prices. The top-performing districts — Darien, New Canaan, Westport, and Weston — consistently rank among CT's best. Greenwich is large but strong. If school rankings are your primary filter, those five towns are where you'll focus, with prices reflecting that demand.
For strong schools at a better price point, Wilton and Fairfield consistently deliver. The Easton-Redding-Region 9 system is excellent and chronically overlooked. I can walk you through individual school quality for any neighborhood — not just district rankings.
Which Towns Offer the Best Commute to NYC?
For Metro-North commuters, the New Haven Line runs through Greenwich (~45 min), Stamford (~55 min), Norwalk (~65 min), Westport (~60 min), and Fairfield (~75 min). Towns without direct train access — Wilton, Easton, Weston, Newtown, Redding — suit remote workers or drivers who connect to a nearby station.
My standard advice: test the actual commute on a Tuesday before you fall in love with any address. The difference between a 52-minute and a 74-minute commute matters enormously over 250 working days.

Mark's Take — 18 Years in Fairfield County
People ask me all the time which town they should move to. My answer is always the same: it depends entirely on how you actually live your life. I've had buyers fall in love with Westport on paper and end up in Wilton because the lifestyle fit better. I've had buyers convinced they needed Stamford who ended up in Fairfield and couldn't be happier. The towns here are genuinely different from each other. My job isn't to steer you toward the most expensive option — it's to put you in the right place for your family, your commute, and your budget. After 400+ deals, I know this county well enough to have that conversation honestly.
